Longtime DAC clay teacher retires June 3

By May 17, 2011

Current and former students, parents, colleagues and members of the public are invited to a retirement party for Davis Art Center clay teacher Clarice Baker.

The party, hosted by DAC staff and Baker’s daughters, Laura Baker-Averett and Liz Webb, begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 3, at the Art Center, 1919 F St.

Those planning to attend — as well as those touched by Baker who cannot be present — are asked to email [email protected] with written memories of Baker’s classes or photos of clay projects, which will be included in a scrapbook gift for Baker.

Baker, who has taught clay in Davis for more than 45 years, was the original clay teacher at the Art Center, which was established in 1960.

“She will be greatly missed!” a spokeswoman says.
