Akram Khan Company brings poetry to life at Mondavi

By From page A9 | October 12, 2012

The London-based Akram Khan Company brings “Vertical Road,” a 70-minute modern dance piece (with no intermission) that premiered in 2010 in England and has since toured internationally to the Mondavi Center at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24.

“Vertical Road” performers come from across Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

With a specially commissioned score by long-term collaborator composer, Nitin Sawhney, “Vertical Road” draws inspiration from the Sufi tradition and the ancient Persian poet and philosopher Rumi, and incorporates costumes, dancers of different shapes and sizes, complex lighting and other theatrical effects.

Tickets are $25-$55 general, $12.50-$27.50 students, available at www.mondaviarts.org or by calling 530-754-2787.

There will be a post-performance question-and-answer period involving the artists and the audience.
