Solo performer assays the entire ‘Star Wars’ trilogy — all by himself
Writer/performer Charles Ross, who claims to have viewed the original trio of “Star Wars” films more than 400 times, will bring his long-running solo show “One Man Star Wars Trilogy” to the Mondavi Center’s Jackson Hall on Friday, Nov. 30, at 8 p.m.
Ross will singlehandedly present his version incorporating all three movies of the original “Star Wars” trilogy in a single evening, playing all the characters, recreating the effects, singing from John Williams’ famous score, flying the ships and fighting (for both sides) with a light saber, “complete with captivating facts and editorial asides,” according to a news release.
The nerdy Ross reportedly got the idea for the piece while playing Frisbee with friends; the Frisbee tosser would shout out a line from a famous movie as he released the flying disk, and the receiver had to quickly reply before intercepting the airborne Frisbee.
Ross secured permission from Lucasfilm to do a stage piece incorporating “Star Wars” characters, and then developed his concept into a 75-minute show that premiered in Canada in 2001. He has since performed “One Man Star Wars Trilogy” more than 1,200 times in more than 180 cities across four continents, including an Off Broadway run, and appearances at fringe festivals and science fiction conventions.
