Wozniak to discuss founding of Apple, future of tech industry
As part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the UC Davis College of Engineering, tech industry pioneer and philanthropist Steve Wozniak will speak at the Mondavi Center at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29. Wozniak was a co-founder of Apple Computer in 1976, and thereby played a role in the creation of the personal computer as a common household device.
Wozniak is also a humorist and storyteller — he operated the first “dial-a-joke” service in the San Francisco Bay Area, as a hobby. A determined advocate of public education, Wozniak also “adopted” the Los Gatos Union School District in the Silicon Valley, providing students and teachers with hands-on teaching and donations of state-of-the-art technology equipment.
Wozniak currently serves as chief scientist with the company Fusion-IO.
He released his autobiography, “iWoz: From Computer Geek to Cult Icon: How I Invented the Personal Computer, Co-Founded Apple, and Had Fun Doing It,” in 2006.
Participating in Wozniak’s appearance at the Mondavi Center will be moderator Enrique Lavernia, dean of the College of Engineering at UCD. Tickets are $35-$63 general, $17.50-$31.50 students, available at www.mondaviarts.org or 530-754-2787.
