Myanmar film screens at I-House

By
May 9, 2011 |

Aa new film, “They Call It Myanmar,” will get a special pre-release screening at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at International House, 10 College Park in Davis.

Created by Robert H. Lieberman, the film is sponsored by the Myanmar Children’s Foundation, a local nonprofit founded by Davis High School graduate Max Harrington. Harrington lived and worked in Myanmar for three years before starting graduate school at Georgetown University this past fall. He will give speak about the foundation’s current projects before the film screening.

The film is described as an evocative portrait of a country under military dictatorship and includes a rare interview with Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi. Drinks and light refreshments will be served. Burmese handicrafts will be for sale.

A suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors will be collected at the door. For more information, call Susan Steinbach at (530) 510-9770 or visit http://myanmarchildrensfoundation.org.
