Northern California favorite Mumbo Gumbo will bring its big, joyful sound to The Palms in Winters at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 27, for a Youth Day dance party. Tickets are $20.
Mumbo Gumbo is fronted by first-rate singer/songwriters Chris Webster and Tracy Walton. Moving back and forth between Webster’s sly, sometimes melancholy explorations of romance and individuality (“Love Makes Me Stupid,” “Opera Girl”) and Walton’s ebullient, unabashed celebrations of family and commitment (“Original You,” “Stuck On You”) and Webster/Walton collaborations such as “The Wonder Of It All,” Gumbo weaves a rich tapestry of sound and sensibility that transcends genre.
The band is anchored and driven by one of the longest-lived, solid, and creative rhythm sections in Northern California: drummer Rick Lotter and bassist Lynn Michael Palmer. With Reggy Marks’ sax, Jon Wood’s guitar, and Steve Stizzo’s keyboards fleshing out the band’s expansive sound, Mumbo Gumbo has built a reputation not just for danceability, but also for creative depth and listenability.
The dance floor will be open and seating will be limited.
Tickets for Mumbo Gumbo’s show at The Palms Playhouse, 13 Main St., are available at Armadillo Music in Davis, Watermelon Music’s Woodland branch, Pacific Ace Hardware in Winters and at the door if not sold out. For more information, visit palmsplayhouse.com or mumbogumbo.com.
