Music will enhance summer ArtAbouts

By
May 23, 2011 |

Second Friday ArtAbout events this summer will include a musical note, as the Davis Downtown Business Association adds sidewalk performances by bands and ensembles to the array of artistic expression.

Music is planned at the popular monthly event in June, July, August and September.

As shoppers and art lovers visit the dozens of venues and receptions normally featured on ArtAbout nights, they will encounter music in both familiar and newly identified areas of the downtown.

While E Street Plaza likely will be featured, smaller stages outdoors throughout downtown “will add to the sense of discovery Second Friday ArtAbouts always aim to deliver,” said Joy Cohan, DDBA director.

The musical ArtAbouts will replace the Friday night concert series for the 2011 season, Cohan said. Second Friday ArtAbout dates this summer are June 10, July 8, Aug. 12 and Sept. 9.

On Aug. 12, local doo-wop favorites Frankie and the Fabletones will perform on the E Street Plaza, and, later in the evening, appear in duos and trios singing in and near the businesses and galleries hosting artists’ works.

Summer ArtAbout music is made possible by the contributions from The Avid Reader, Davis Food Co-op, Just Kidding, Lyon Real Estate, Mother & Baby Source, nestware, Newman Associates, The Wardrobe and Union Bank.
