Country singer and humanitarian Kenny Alphin, aka Big Kenny of the music duo Big & Rich, will speak to children, parents and community members at a dinner Friday, Aug. 3, to benefit the Woodland Polytechnic Academy, a tuition-free Woodland charter school.
The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Woodland Poly campus at the Yolo County Fairgrounds, 1250 E. Gum Ave. in Woodland. Local residents will have an opportunity to meet Big Kenny from 6 to 7 p.m. and will hear his inspirational words and some music from 7 to 8 p.m.
Admission is free, but dinner foods will be available for purchase throughout the evening. Entrees from Maria’s Cantina will sell for $6, pizza from Pizza Guys will go for $2 per slice and dessert by the Carrousel Cobblers will cost $3.
Big Kenny is half of the country music duo, Big & Rich, which has released three studio albums and has had 10 singles land on the Billboard Hot Country Song Charts. The song “Lost in this Moment” reach No. 1 on several charts. Big Kenny also has released two solo albums.
The singer also is known for his humanitarian missions. In 2007 and 2009, Big Kenny traveled to Akon, a remote village in Northern Bahl Ghazel in Sudan, to deliver medical and education supplies together with My Sisters Keeper group. In January 2010, he went to Haiti to assist in rescue efforts after the devastating earthquake there.
