Local residents are invited to celebrate the retirement of Charlene Kunitz, who has taught music and voice at the Davis Art Center for 49 years. Her party, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Art Center, 1919 F St., will feature sing-alongs with piano accompaniment.
The event is free and open to the public; refreshments will be served. Kunitz’s students are invited to bring a dish to share and a song to sing.
Kunitz moved to Davis in 1963 and started teaching classical guitar at the Art Center. She went back to school and earned her master of fine arts degree in music, and felt impassioned to get back to the voice in her teaching.
“Charlene was full of joy when she started teaching singing and vocal freedom,” a news release said. “She has found that standing up straight to sing allows her to release the full potential of the body for sound, greatly enhancing the singing voice.
“Charlene has been an inspiration to students young and old for decades, and has helped hundreds of students find their voice.”
RSVPs are encouraged; call the Art Center at (530) 756-4100.
