For one magical evening in March, the Davis High School Band Boosters will recreate the ambiance of the legendary Coconut Grove jazz club, where patrons can relax and enjoy dinner and a full evening of jazz entertainment.

“An Evening at the Coconut Grove” is scheduled for Saturday, March 10, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at Emerson Junior High School, 2121 Calaveras Ave. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

The evening will feature performances by local jazz groups, including the award-winning Davis High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Fred Lange. This will be Lange’s final Coconut Grove performance, as he looks forward to his upcoming retirement.

Also taking the stage will be the Harper, Holmes and Emerson Junior High Jazz Bands and the well-known local jazz ensembles directed by Celia Cottle, including the J Street Jazz Cats, Sax by Popular Demand and the Crazy Eights.

The DHS Jazz Choir will make a special guest appearance.

Guests will enjoy a full dinner catered by Dos Coyotes, a silent auction, and a raffle in addition to the evening of jazz. Tickets are $30 general ($35 after Feb. 22), $20 for students and free for children under 5. Ticket order forms are available at http://groups.dcn.org/dhsbandboosters/an-evening-at-coconunt-grove. For ticket questions, email samstro@pacbell.net.

Funds raised will help support the Jazz Band’s spring trip to perform at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and the combined band trip to perform at several sites in San Diego, including aboard the Navy carrier, USS Midway.
