January is join-a-chorus month

By From page A9 | January 11, 2012

Dozens of choruses throughout the greater Sacramento area are starting new performance seasons this month. Many hold formal auditions, but for many others, the selection process is much less formal. And some organizations will take anyone who can carry a tune.

So if you’ve felt the need for more singing in your life, now is a good time to act.

To help would-be singers find the right chorus, the Sacramento Choral Calendar (www.sacchoralcalendar.com) now includes an audition directory. Along with a profile of each chorus, this new directory includes details about membership requirements (if any), audition procedures (if any), rehearsal times and locations, contact data, etc. — all the information needed for chorus-shopping.

The Sacramento Choral Calendar is a website that lists all public choral performances in the greater Sacramento area, covering 60 independent and college-affiliated choruses. A related service is the Sacramento Choral News, a blog with local news items of all kinds for those who are interested in choral singing (www.sacchoralnews.blogspot.com).
