Music festival Wednesday benefits Esparto school programs

The UC Davis Concert Band, conducted by Pete Nowlen, and the UC Davis Campus Band, conducted by Tom Slabaugh, will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium at Esparto High School, 26675 Plainfield St.

A donation of $5 will be collected at the door, with all proceeds going to the Esparto school music programs.

Also joining in the musical extravaganza are the Winters Middle School Band, directed by Lynne Secrist, and the Winters High School Band, directed by Tania Mannion. An added feature are Esparto choral and violin students in kindergarten through eighth grades.

The program will include music from “Star Wars,” “West Side Story” and a grand finale with all performers and the audience singing “America the Beautiful.”

“We are so pleased to present the Winters Middle School and High School bands,” said Esparto Elementary School teachers Tracy Anderson and Kari King.

“The Winters bands are here because they have an exemplary music program and do not have the beautiful venue with acoustics that we have in Esparto.”
