Like to sing? Ever think about joining a chorus?
Excluding church choirs, there are about 70 choruses in the greater Sacramento area, and eight rehearse in Yolo County. Now is when they are looking for new members, as they prepare for holiday performance season. Some choruses are highly selective, even competitive, but there are many that will take anyone who can carry a tune.
Rehearsals typically begin in late August or early September, so if you are a would-be singer who hasn’t yet found a chorus home, this is your opportunity.
The Sacramento Choral Calendar (www.sacchoralcalendar.com) lists the performances of all the choruses in the region, but it also has a directory of audition information: when auditions are conducted, what is involved, when and where the chorus rehearses, and whether they even require an audition at all.
“Singing in the shower is fun, but performing good music for an appreciative audience brings a whole new level of satisfaction,” a news release said. “And then there’s the camaraderie that comes from accomplishing a goal as a group, and experiencing the harmony of blending one’s voice with others. It’s a spiritual high that brings experienced choristers coming back for more and more.
“Don’t waste that talent of yours: look into joining a chorus during this window of opportunity.”
