The Plainfield Pickers — featuring Bluegrass Harold Crawford on wood pounder, banjo picker and vocals; Jim Jelks on drums; Scott Stone on guitar and vocals, and Jim Hilliard on stand-up bass and vocals — bring their high-energy mix of bluegrass and western swing to Picnic in the Park on Wednesday, Aug. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Davis Farmers Market in Central Park, Third and C streets in Davis. The band named themselves after a local nightspot when they started playing together in 1998.
The Market, which is open from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., is filled with farm-fresh summer fruits and vegetables plus local eggs, honey, cheeses and wine. Picnic in the Park’s International Food Faire offers picnickers a wide array of dinner specialties to tantalize worldly palates, including El Mariachi Taqueria (Mexican cuisine), Raja Indian Cuisine (Indian nan-wrap cuisine), Kathmandu Kitchen (Indian cuisine), Thai Recipes (Thai cuisine), and East West Gourmet (Afghanistan bolanis and condiments). Caffe Italia will bring the Artisan Baking Oven on Wheels to Picnic in the Park to make “pizzas with a purpose” (benefitting Davis Farm to School), with toppings sourced from local farmers. Soroptomist Club of Davis host the local beer and wine booth, benefiting Davis charities.
