Rock-and-roll Christmas concerts planned

Holiday music similar to that popularized by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra will raise the roof at four performances this month as the Davis Musical Theatre Company collaborates with local rock and opera musicians on a rock-and-roll holiday show.

TSO’s musical style is a harmonious amalgam of classical, orchestral, symphonic and progressive elements blended with hard rock and heavy metal. The group has updated the popular music of many classical masters (Mozart and Beethoven, to name two) to create an edgier and modern fare.

“TSO’s music revived the passion of the music in me, being able to belt and croon the music I was raised on, only in my own way; it’s not the traditional holiday carols from my childhood, and yet they still are!” said featured vocalist Andrea Eve Thorpe.

Thorpe and others will perform at 8:15 p.m. Saturday; 2:15 p.m. Sunday; 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11; and 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. All performances will be at the Davis Musical Theatre Company, 607 Peña Drive. Tickets are $15; visit www.dmtc.org.
