Extended seven-string guitars will be showcased at a Trio Seven concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at Woodland Presbyterian Church, 1324 Columbia Drive in Woodland. A donation of $10 to $20 will be taken at the door.
Trio Seven was formed indirectly when Matthew Grasso, a Davis guitarist, composed “7th Creation,” an original composition for three extended seven-string guitars. This inspired further exploration for the guitar ensemble, which also includes Eric Rasmussen and Matthew Foley.
The extended seven-string guitar has one octave more in range than a traditional six-string guitar, Grasso said in a news release. Trio Seven has made groundbreaking transcriptions of composers works not associated with the guitar, such as Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Moussorgsky and Dvorak. In addition to performing classical masterworks, the trio also includes improvised works in its programs.
