Warm up with blues at RootStock

By From page A11 | December 07, 2011

RootStock, 22 Main St. in downtown Winters, invites local residents to stop in Friday between 6 and 8 p.m. for some down-home delta-style blues featuring the acoustic duo Chicken & Dumpling.

Guests may enjoy a glass of wine from three local wineries while they listen to Charles “Chicken” Oriel on guitar and Julia “Dumpling” Simon on bass. Their music is inspired by Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy and Muddy Waters, in addition to the classic women’s blues of Bessie Smith and Sippie Wallace.

Chicken & Dumpling also covers contemporary blues artists like Bonnie Raitt and Eric Clapton, as well as jazz standards.
