Melissa Ruth, a singer-songwriter from Eugene, Ore., will make a stop on her Intimate Spaces fall tour at Third Space, 946 Olive Drive, Davis, at 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9.
She is promoting her new album “Riding Mercury,” which has its roots in rural America, with hints of blues, country and rock.
Born and raised in rural British Columbia, Ruth attended Humboldt State University where she earned a degree in music. A public school music teacher, she has been the music director for the last eight years of in a tiny school district in rural Oregon. She is on sabbatical from that position to pursue performance opportunities.
“Riding Mercury” debuted on the Freeform American Roots radio charts in August at No. 12, alongside the latest from John Hiatt.
“Summer Nights in New Orleans,” the third song on the release, was named among the top 10 songs of the week by The Alternate Root music magazine with offerings from Dr. John and Ruthie Foster. The CD also earned 4.5 stars in 3rd Coast Music Magazine and she and her band, The Likely Stories, will be attending 2015’s SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas, showcasing for 3rd Coast Music.
