Mozart called the organ “the king of instruments,” perhaps for the tremendous range of sounds and moods available.
Local organist David L. Deffner will offer a recital showcasing all the organ has to offer at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at Davis Community Church, 412 C St. Included on the program will be some great works of J.S. Bach, the famous and fabulous Widor Toccata, a charming piece by Mozart, as well as a selection of pieces for manuals alone.
Deffner is an accomplished organist who has a doctorate in church music from Northwestern University. He has performed with the Sacramento Symphony Orchestra, the Camellia Symphony, the Sacramento Area Bach Festival and the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra. Deffner taught for years at American River College and is director of music at Davis Community Church.
For this concert, the $10 suggested donation will support the church’s Concert Series and also will provide additional funding for youths from the congregation to participate in a summer youth convention. For more information, call Davis Community Church at 530-753-2894.
