Spearheaded by Peppino D’Agostino and David Tenenbaum, the newly formed Pacific Guitar Ensemble brings together eight talented musicians, creating a fresh take on familiar classics and blending them with original compositions.
The Pacific Guitar Ensemble will showcase its sound at 8 p.m. Friday at The Palms Playhouse, 13 Main St., Winters, as part of the release of its new CD “Begin.” Tickets are $20.
In 2010, D’Agostino and Tenenbaum — of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music — assembled “an eclectic group of pluckers” to perform a wide range of music on guitars as well as other plucked instruments, such as ouds, lutes and more. They gathered together members of the guitar faculty and alumni and then combined nylon strings with steel, electric basses with 17th century theorbos to create the Pacific Guitar Ensemble.
The ensemble’s repertoire features music written by composers like Brazilian guitar legend Sergio Assad, noted minimalist Belinda Reynolds, the group’s own D’Agostino, and fresh arrangements of works by great composers from Bach to Brahms, Dowland to Rossini.
Tickets for The Pacific Guitar Ensemble are available at Armadillo Music in Davis, Watermelon Music in Woodland, Pacific Ace Hardware in Winters and at the door if not sold out. For more information, call 530-795-1825 or visit palmsplayhouse.com and pacificguitarensemble.com.
