Davis hosts world’s first transmedia sculpture walk

Sorry, Mayor Bloomberg, but New York City won’t be the first city in the world to feature a transmedia walking tour through its busy streets. In a few short weeks, that honor will belong to Davis.

On Friday, Feb. 17, John Natsoulas, in collaboration with Monto H. Kumagai, a software developer, and Finley Fryer, a UC Davis graduate and local artist, will unveil the beginnings of a transmedia sculpture walk highlighting various pieces of artwork in key locations throughout downtown Davis.

Dance and sports’ common ground

Eight aspects of athleticism that are shared by both dancers and athletes will be showcased in the 2012 Davis Dance Project, “Athleticism & Dance,” to be presented next weekend at the Pamela Trokanski Dance Workshop.

Performers will be members of the Pamela Trokanski Dance Theatre, The Third Stage Dance Company and several guest dancers. The performances will explore the shared worlds of the arena and the theater — sports and dance.

In 1998, the Pamela Trokanski Dance Theatre first presented “Athleticism & Dance,” a combination lecture, demonstration and performance that explored eight aspects of what it means to be an athlete in dance and how dancers share a lot in common with football, basketball and baseball players, as well as wrestlers, gymnasts and long-distance runners.

“This year, we decided that it’s time to bring it back!” Trokanski said in a news release.

Known primarily as a novelist (“Bright Lights, Big City”), McInerney also wrote, until the magazine folded […]

Jill Sobule, the funny, smart and provocative singer-songwriter who is perhaps best known for the 1995 single “I Kissed a Girl” and her song “Supermodel” from the soundtrack of the 1995 film “Clueless,” will be at The Palms Playhouse on Thursday.
