Papa Hip plays at park

Papa Hip will bring its unique blend of rock-and-roll and rhythm and blues to Picnic in the Park on Wednesday. The weekly family-friendly celebration takes place in conjunction with the Davis Farmers Market and runs from 5 to 8:15 p.m. in Central Park, Fourth and C streets. Papa Hip has been together for six years and is a favorite of Picnic in the Park fans.

The Farmers Market is full of seasonal produce, including asparagus, snap peas, bok choy, greens, lettuces, herbs, carrots and potatoes plus local free-range eggs, honey, olive oil, jams, dried fruit, nuts, flowers and garden starts. Craft booths are at the north end of the market.

An international food fair offers picnickers a wide array of dinner specialties to tantalize worldly palates. Caffé Italia will bring its Artisan Baking On Wheels ovens to make “pizzas with a purpose” — benefitting the Davis Farm to School Connection — with toppings provided by local farmers. Returning food vendors include The Buckhorn, Ciocolat, Davis Creamery, Fat Face, The Hotdogger, Monticello Bistro, Mustard Seed, Santa Fe Trading Co. and Steve’s Pizza.

Members of Soroptimist International of Davis will sell beer and wine, with proceeds benefiting local charities.

Children’s entertainment includes Central Park’s bicycle-powered carousel, Rocknasium’s climbing structure, Bouncing Bungalows, face-painting and balloon-maker Dilly Dally the Clown.
