Pianist TianPeng Yu takes top honor at Young Artists Competition

TianPeng Yu, a 22-year-old pianist who was born in China and now studies in Los Angeles, received the Founder’s Prize in this year’s Mondavi Center Young Artists Competition on March 2. Other winners include 15-year-old Alex Chien of San Jose (Young Artists Prize, Piano Division), 12-year-old Andrew Sung of Yorba Linda (Honorable Mention, Piano Division), 15-year-old Patrick Pan of Houston, Texas (Honorable Mention, Piano Division), 21-year-old Wesley Chu of Boston, Massachusetts (Honorable Mention, Founder’s Division), and the duo of 15-year-old pianist Alex Chien and 12-year-old violinist Robert Chien (Bouchaine Young Artists Prize).  As the list of winners indicates, the Mondavi Center’s Young Artists Competition is now attracting entrants from around the nation.
