Artist plans plein air painting workshop April 16

By March 17, 2011

Local residents are invited to join plein air painter Deladier Almeida on a trip to Goat Rock Beach on Saturday, April 16, for an all-day painting workshop. Located in northwestern Sonoma County, Goat Rock Beach offers views of the ocean and the mouth of the Russian River, while providing a sheltered location to paint.

The workshop will offer instruction in teaching participants of all levels strategies for painting outside. Almeida will review what materials and equipment to bring at a short, pre-workshop meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at the Pence Gallery, 212 D St. in downtown Davis. The gallery has organized the workshop at the coast.

The workshop will cover how to search for locations, plan for weather, translate the rhythm of the landscape onto your canvas, and use one’s own brushwork as a personal signature.

The group will car pool from Davis at 7 a.m. and paint until the sun sets.

The fee is $140 general or $130 for Pence members. For more information or to sign up, call (530) 758-3370 or visit http://www.pencegallery.org. Registration is due by April 14.
