Poetry Night features Sacramento poet laureate

The Poetry Night Reading Series welcomes Sacramento poet laureate Jeff Knorr at 8 p.m. Thursday at the John Natsoulas Gallery, 521 First St.

Knorr, a winner of the Ray Bradbury Award in Poetry, has authored three collections of poetry: “The Third Body,” “Standing Up to the Day” and “Keeper.”

Knorrā€™s poetry and essays have appeared widely in literary journals and anthologies, and he has been an invited judge for various awards. He was the founding co-editor and poetry editor of the Clackamas Literary Review, which won Best New Magazine in America in 1997 and in 1998. A past chair of the English department at Sacramento City College, Knorr also has served on the Sacramento County Office of Education Arts Executive Advisory Board.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure a seat, and to sign up for a spot on the open mic list. The Poetry Night Reading Series, hosted and produced by Andy Jones, takes place on the first and third Thursdays of each month at the John Natsoulas Gallery.
