RootStock showcases poetry, music

By From page A9 | January 21, 2014

Local poetry and musical performances are planned this week at RootStock, 22 Main St. in downtown Winters.

Thursday evening features the first Fourth Thursday Open Mic, from 7 to 9 p.m., dedicated solely poetry and spoken word. On Friday evening, the Hey-Nows! and The Bonanza Kings will perform in the Alley Gallery. Tasting of both red wine blends from Casey Flat Ranch, which won double gold at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition for 2014, also will be available.

Music will be featured from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. First up are the Hey-Nows!, an eclectic country swing band fronted by singer Kari King and featuring Keith Carey on steel guitar, J. Cedar Seeger on electric guitar, Roger Kunkel on fiddle, Steve O’Neill on bass and Nick Carvajal on drums. King wrote most of the songs, which are inspired by her life.

The Bonanza Kings’ influences include ragtime, old jazz, blues and many forms of country music.
