SF Opera’s ‘Elixir’ to screen on Monday

By From page A7 | April 05, 2012

The Mondavi Center’s Vanderhoef Studio Theater will screen a high-definition recording of the San Francisco Opera’s production of Gaetano Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore” (“The Elixir of Love”) at 7 p.m. Monday, April 9. The opera dates from 1832 and was set originally in Europe’s Basque region, but this production moves the setting to a small Italian-American community in the Napa Valley, circa 1915. The story involves the naïve Nemorino, who believes a love potion he has purchased (which is actually a bottle of wine) will win him the heart of his adored Adina. Tenor Ramón Vargas sings the role of the lovesick Nemorino. The beautiful but aloof Adina is sung by soprano Inva Mula. Tickets are $20 general, $10 for students, available at www.mondaviarts.org or (530) 754-2787.
