Shakespeare (abridged) comes to UCD

The Davis Shakespeare Ensemble will present “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, May 12-21, and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sundays, May 15 and 22. The venue is the UC Davis Arboretum Gazebo, on Garrod Drive on the UCD campus.

The play is written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield and directed by Gia Battista.

“Come join us for a hilarious, fast-paced romp through Shakespeare’s 37 plays,” managing director Steph Hankinson says in a news release. “This wild lampoon of the Bard’s comedies, histories and tragedies includes a lightning-speed version of Hamlet both forward and backward. We guarantee you will be breathless with laughter!”

The Davis Shakespeare Ensemble is a new theater company that presents full-length Shakespearean productions and educational workshops to communities in the region. The company is committed to producing shows in unconventional theatrical spaces and works with UCD Arboretum officials to present Shakespeare’s works in an outdoor setting.
