The Free Range Singers will begin the first of two six-week spring sessions on Tuesday. The group meets weekly from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis, 27074 Patwin Road, and is directed by Laura Sandage, with assistance from Katie Henry.
All voices are welcome, regardless of musical background, including children who attend with an adult. The repertoire is varied and accessible, and the atmosphere is fun and uplifting. There is a suggested donation to particpate, with scholarships available. For more information, call 530-848-4812 or email lsandage@comcast.net.
The fall session of the Free Range Singers raised $1,576 for Yolo County CASA with a Martin Luther King Day concert, where they were joined by the UU Sparks Choir, and supported by the UU Church and Kappa Alpha Theta.
Sandage just returned from a trip to Victoria, British Columbia, where she spent a week with an international gathering of Ubuntu community choir directors, learning new songs and methods for group singing. Choirs in the Ubuntu Network, like the Free Range Singers, contribute to their communities through fundraising and singing for local events and causes.
