Summer art camps available

There are a variety of camps available this summer for kids. Here’s a quick look at a few.

* The Davis Musical Theatre Company will offer its annual Summer Youth Theater Workshop for students ages 7 to 17 in July.
The workshop will run from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays and Wednesdays, July 7-30, and will be taught by Jan Isaacson and Helen Spangler. Students will learn the basics of acting, singing, dance steps, vocal projection and other basic performing skills through theater games, improvisation and beginning scene study.

The workshop will culminate with a recital of songs and scenes at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 31. Sign up at www.dmtc.org.
* The Davis Youth Flute Choir, directed by flutist Maquette Kuper, is accepting applicants to join its annual summer Flute Camp, which runs July 7-17.

The students will perform in the 31st annual Summer Music Concert, featuring both classical and jazz music, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 17. The choir, directed by Kuper and jazz director Fredrick Lange, will perform in the atrium of the Davis Arts Center, 1919 F St.

There are two flute choir levels — the Junior Flute Choir for students in grades 7-9 and the Senior Flute Choir for students in grades 10-12. Students wishing to join the junior choir must be proficient on the instrument, read music well, perform all notes from low C to high G, and have a basic understanding of rhythm. Usually students who have completed one year of advanced band instruction at the elementary school level are qualified. For more information, visit davisyouthflutechoir.org
* The Manville Mini-Musical summer mini-camps — “Harry Potter” and “Rockstar!” — will be held July 14-25 and Aug. 4-15. Rehearsals will run from 12:45 to 3:45 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at Lisa Applegate’s studio in West Davis, and then will move to the Veterans’ Memorial Center for the final two days of rehearsals, to be held from 9 a.m. to noon. The performances will be on the final Friday evening of each mini-camp.
