Break out the picnic blankets — it’s a perfect time to enjoy Picnic in the Park, the family-friendly celebration that takes place every Wednesday evening in Central Park, through Oct. 26. The 2011 season is organized by the Davis Farmers Market and sponsored by the Davis Food Co-op.
The event, which runs from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., features live music, an international food fair, children’s entertainment and, of course, the farmers market.
The food fair offers picnickers a wide array of dinner specialties to tantalize worldly palates, including El Mariachi Taqueria (Mexican cuisine), Raja Indian Cuisine (Indian nan-wrap cuisine), Kathmandu Kitchen (Indian cuisine), Thai Recipes (Thai cuisine), and East West Gourmet (Afghanistan bolanis and condiments).
Caffé Italia brings its artisan baking oven on wheels to the park to make “pizzas with a purpose,” benefiting the Davis Farm to School Connection, with toppings sourced from local farmers.
Returning food vendors include The Buckhorn (tri-tip and chicken sandwiches and salads), Ciocolat (burgers, pasta and desserts), Davis Creamery (ice cream in farm-fresh flavors), Fat Face (ice pops in farm-fresh flavors), The Hotdogger (hot dogs, veggie dogs, corn dogs and fresh lemonade), Monticello Bistro (farm-fresh salads and sandwiches), Mustard Seed (salads and sandwiches), Santa Fe Trading Co. (farm-fresh snow cones) and Steve’s Pizza.
Soroptimist International of Davis sells beer and wine, with proceeds going to local charities.
Children’s entertainment includes pony rides, Central Park’s bicycle-powered carousel, Rocknasium’s climbing wall, bounce houses, face painting and balloon-maker Dilly Dally the Clown.
