Teslim brings ancient traditions to Davis

Teslim — a duo featuring Bay Area musicians Kaila Flexer on violin and Gari Hegedus on oud, Turkish saz, Greek lauoto and other (mostly plucked) stringed instruments — will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 27, at the Village Homes Community Center, 2661 Portage Bay Ave. East. The duo performs Greek, Turkish and Sephardic music. In addition, both Flexer and Hegedus are composers whose original music is based on these fertile traditions. Teslim, which means both “commit” and “surrender” in Turkish — released its debut self-titled CD in December 2008. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.
