The Woodland Opera House Education Program will offer classes for home-schooled children this academic year, including ballet, fun with puppets and a theater arts workshop. All classes will take place at the Opera House, 340 Second St. in downtown Woodland.
Ballet is an introduction to basic positions with an emphasis on body posture, rhythm and the technique of jumps, turns and combinations. This class is appropriate for children ages 7 and older and will run from 1:15 to 2:10 p.m. Mondays, beginning Sept. 10. It will conclude in May with the Dance Showcase Performance on May 18 and 19. Tuition is $45 per month.
The puppetry class will run from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays. This class is an introduction to the world of puppetry, and students will create their own puppets and learn the basics of manipulation, voice and characterization. The class is open to children in kindergarten through third grades. The nine-week session runs from Sept. 19 through Nov. 14. Tuition is $90 for the session.
The theater arts workshop will meet from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays. “Whether you are new to theater or an experienced performer, this class will be fun for all,” a news release said.
Students will explore character study, improvisation, concentration, voice and movement through theater games, exercises and scenes. This class will provide a dynamic environment for students to focus on creativity while building skills and confidence for the stage. It is designed for aspiring actors and for students looking for a fun introduction to the world of live theater.
This class is open to children in fourth through 12th grades. The nine-week session runs from Sept. 19 through Nov. 14. Tuition is $90 for the session.
