Last year, 3,000 country music lovers poured into the Yolo County Fairgrounds in Woodland to scream, cheer and dance as some of their favorite performers played their hits. On Friday, May 31, Country 4 Coaches is back to raise more money for sports programs at Woodland public schools. Event organizers say tickets are selling fast, with the possibility of a sold-out event.

James Wesley, The Lost Trailers, Weston Burt, Austin Webb and local favorite Flat Busted will play at Country 4 Coaches II, which benefits the Woodland Schools Foundation. Food purchases will benefit the Yolo County Fairgrounds Heritage Foundation to support fairgrounds renovations.

Last year’s concert raised $42,000 for seventh- through 12th-grade athletic coaching stipends in the Woodland Joint Unified School District. Sharply reduced state funding to the schools has made private fundraising necessary to support district sports programs. Organizers hope to raise even more money for the same cause this year.

The Woodland Schools Foundation is separate from the school district, but raises funds to support students’ academic and extracurricular activities. Other recent WSF fundraisers have supported the elementary GATE program and funded noon yard duties to give teachers much-needed preparation time.

Doors for the concert open at 5 p.m. Advance tickets are $20 per person and are available at the Yolo County Fairgrounds office, 1125 East St.; all Woodland high schools and middle schools; Hoblit Dodge; Mill Iron Feed in Esparto; National Town & Valley Properties Inc.; and online at www.country4coaches.com or www.brownpapertickets.com. Tickets at door are $35. Parking is $5.
