Trocks return with playful parody of ballet classics

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo returns to the Mondavi Center on Thursday, March 27, at 8 p.m. with a show that will feature a somewhat irreverent version of “Swan Lake” and other classical ballets, as well as several newer works.

Founded in New York in the mid-1970s, and soon notorious for casting against gender, the Trocks developed a worldwide following with their loving knowledge of dance, their comic approach and the astounding fact that men can, indeed, dance en pointe without falling flat on their faces.

Tickets start at $55 general, $27.50 for UC Davis students. Prior to the 8 p.m. performance by the Trocks, there will be a free 6:30 p.m. performance outdoors in the Mondavi Center’s Corin Courtyard, next to the box office, featuring Peter Petty and His Titans of Terpsichore. Petty is a Northern California performer who has been affiliated with several arts groups in Sacramento and elsewhere.
