The Shakespeare in the Park play “Twelfth Night” opens Friday, Aug. 10, at 8 p.m. in the amphitheater behind the Winters Community Center.
The play will continue on Saturday, Aug. 11, and there will be two additional performances on the following weekend.
The plot of “Twelfth Night” requires 16 speaking roles and is a favorite comedy with the local theater company. Several actors, Trent Beeby (Orsino), Larry Justus (Toby Sir Belch), Phil Pittman (Andrew Aguecheek), and Germaine Hupe (Maria) will reprise the roles they played in the 2008 production. They are joined by leading actresses Joanie Bryant (Viola) and Jessicca Eldridge (Olivia) and by veteran performers Jim Hewlett (Feste the jester) and Rodney Orosco (Malvolio). The cast welcomes back Andrew Fridae (Sebastian) after an absence of several years.
Jesse Akers plays several roles, the sea captain, an officer, and a friar. Hillary Andrews has the dual roles of Valentine and Fabian. Jeremy Nelson makes his Shakespeare debut as the sailor Antonio.
“Twelfth Night” is set in the Duchy of Illyria, a land of music, laughter, and romance. Mistaken identities, thwarted love affairs, phony duels, mischievous pranks are all part of the comic complications of the play.
Admission is $5 for adults, children 12-and-under are admitted free if accompanied by an adult. The audience is invited to bring picnic suppers, lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy a pleasant evening with Putah Creek. Tickets will be sold at the door, and refreshments will be available for sale.
