UC Davis wants input on new art museum

A community forum to discuss the shaping of the UC Davis art museum will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame, 303 Third St. in downtown Davis.

The development of the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art is a major undertaking. By the end of this year, an architect/contractor team will have been selected, and a draft design will have been agreed upon, a news release said. As the building takes physical form, the university also will develop the museum mission and the exhibition and education programming it supports.

“We want to hear ideas and questions as well as how people think the museum can best serve them, the university and the region,” said museum director Rachel Teagle.

The forum will begin with a short presentation on the museum development process followed by open discussion. How can the museum serve community needs that are currently unmet? What are the strengths of our city that the museum may support?
