Violinist, pianist perform Beethoven, Debussy, Janáchek

Rising young violinist Elena Urioste will be joined by pianist Gabriela Martinez at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Mondavi Center’s Vanderhoef Studio Theatre.

An alumna of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Urioste completed graduate studies at the Juilliard School, has appeared on the popular public radio series “From the Top” and has performed as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra (at age 13), New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic.

She has an album coming up with pianist and “From the Top” host Christopher O’Riley and New York Philharmonic principal cellist Carter Brey.

Venezuelan pianist Martinez has performed with the San Francisco Symphony and the Chicago Symphony.

For their recital at the Mondavi Center, Urioste and Martinez will perform sonatas by Leos Janáchek, Claude Debussy and Beethoven (“Spring,” Op. 24). Tickets are $38 general, $19 for students, available at www.mondaviarts.org or 530-754-2787.
