Performers Circle meets Monday

By March 21, 2011

Yolo Mambo, a local band that adapts popular songs to a Latin and Caribbean grove, mixed in with straight-ahead salsa-folk, is the featured performer at Monday’s session of the Village Homes Performers Circle. The gathering runs from 7:15 to 9 p.m. at the Village Homes Community Center, 2661 Portage Bay Ave. East.

The free event features performers of all levels and creative expressions, and takes place on the Monday of each month. Sign-up performances are from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. and featured acts perform from 8:30 to 9 p.m.

Yolo Mambo vocalist Catherine LeBlanc sings in Spanish, Portuguese, French and English, backed up vocally by the entire quartet: Phil Summers on nylon-string guitar, Carla Campbell on percussion and Steve O’Neill on upright bass. Summers and LeBlanc are familiar members of the world music group, !Akimbö, while Campbell is recognized from her work with the Diane Patterson Xtet. O’Neill’s career has included California Zephyr, the Loose Acoustic Trio, and, with Campbell, local Latin group Mejor Que Nada.
