Last year, the Davis High girls’ postseason ride ended at the hands of Del Oro. On Monday afternoon at the Davis High Tennis Complex, the Blue Devils not only got revenge, but advanced in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs with a 7-2 win over the Golden Eagles. The DHS victory set the locals up to host Rocklin in a […]

Christian McCoy, a workhorse the entire year for the Blue Devils, scored for the locals. The sophomore running back ran hard all season, including […]

Blue Devils lose football finale, but look forward to next season

ELK GROVE — It can be hard to find bright spots when your 2-8 football season ends with a 60-24 drubbing, as Davis High’s did Friday night at Delta League rival Monterey Trail. For the Blue Devils, however, bright spots abound, in the shape of the team’s many productive young players. “We’re young, that’s the thing,” head […]

The Davis High girls tennis team captured its first Sac-Joaquin Section playoff match with ease Tuesday afternoon, thumping Lodi, 9-0. Jesuit slips past DHS boys in the pool

The stage was set Tuesday night for a dramatic Davis High boys water polo win over rival Jesuit that would send the graduating seniors out with a bang. But the Marauders had other ideas at UCD’s Schaal Aquatic Center, putting the Blue Devils away with a late run that ended a back-and-forth affair at 17-15. DHS (15-8) […]

Seniors send Blue Devils past St. Francis at Schaal

When the Davis High girls water polo team celebrated Senior Night with a 12-6 victory over rival St. Francis on Tuesday, it was fitting that the Blue Devils’ top scorers were Colby Stapleton and Mara Dominguez.

The two are four-year starters who have helped DHS win Sac-Joaquin Section titles in each of their first three prep seasons, beating the Troubadours in each championship contest.

Playing in front of a full house at UCD’s Schaal Aquatic Center, Stapleton had four goals, controlled much of the game from her center position and added two assists and three drawn exclusions.

Despite losing, the Devils made many key plays in Friday’s game

The 24-21 double-overtime loss suffered by the Davis High football squad on Friday night was one of the more heartbreaking defeats a team could endure. It was bad enough that the loss came on Senior Night, but speed with which the Blue Devils and their fans went from ecstasy to agony in the final minutes made it even tougher […]

JV Devils lose on late PGHS touchdown

The Davis High junior varsity football team fought Pleasant Grove tooth and nail for four quarters Friday night, but a Eagles touchdown in the closing seconds sealed a 22-14 Blue Devil loss. DHS had an early lead after scoring on its first drive and the contest stayed close the rest of the way. Even after the final TD, […]

A conference title would be a dream come true for a lot of high school teams. But for the Davis High girls golf squad, and their coach Rhonda Mohr, the dream lies further down the road. Blue Devils drop a double-overtime thriller

There are tough losses, and there are heartbreaking losses. And then there are absolute gut-punch losses. The Davis High football team’s 24-21 double-overtime defeat at the hands of Pleasant Grove on Friday night falls into that third category of losing. To make matters worse, the unfortunate result came on Senior Night at Brown Stadium. After […]

Early TD is called back as JV Devils fall to Franklin

Sometimes momentum just isn’t enough. One week after getting its first victory of the season, the Davis High junior varsity football team dropped a 25-8 decision at Franklin on Friday. Contrary to the past few weeks, the Blue Devils (1-6) actually got out to a fast start, finding the end zone — or so they thought — on their first […]

Revenge is sweet for DHS girls

Falling behind two games to none against one of the best prep volleyball teams in the area is not typically a recipe for success, but the end result tasted just fine to the Davis High girls on Thursday night at The Cage. The Blue Devils battled back from the brink to capture a marathon, 22-25, 22-25, 25-19, […]

Davis junior varsity footballers find first win

For the first six weeks of the season, the Davis High junior varsity football team practiced harder and harder, in constant pursuit of its first win. That victory finally came on Friday, as the Blue Devils outgunned Sheldon, 34-31, giving the locals their first win of the season. “I think obviously for the psyche of the […]

Junior varsity Devils still working hard on the gridiron

It’s a frequent saying in sports that the score doesn’t reflect how close the actual game is. According to Davis High junior varsity football coach Mike Satre, that was the case in the Blue Devils’ 27-2 home loss to Jesuit on Friday. “We were in it with (the Marauders),” Satre said. “We went into halftime down just […]
