Bars, eateries offer sober driving incentives

Nineteen Davis businesses have joined a campaign to promote sober driving, aimed particularly at UC Davis students. The campaign is being organized by Recording Artists Against Drunk Driving — the entertainment industry’s voice for road safety. RADD’s efforts were lauded in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s report showing DUI deaths in California declining from 924 in 2009 to 774 in 2011.

Participating bars and restaurants have pledged to provide an incentive for non-drinking designated drivers, including free soda or iced tea, or free food samples. They are Beach Hut Deli, Bistro 33, Burgers and Brew, Café Bernardo, The Davis Beer Shoppe, the Davis Graduate, de Vere’s Irish Pub, Froggy’s Bar & Grill, G Street Wunderbar, KetMoRee, Little Prague, Mikuni, Our House, Red 88 Noodle Bar, Sophia’s Thai Kitchen, Sudwerk Restaurant & Brewery, Tres Hermanas, University of Beer and Woodstock’s Pizza.

Participating businesses are listed online at www.collegeisradd.org and distributed on campus.

The RADD designated driver rewards program operates on 17 college and university campuses across the state.
