Business owners can learn how to get good press

By From page A13 | February 17, 2013

Local businesswoman Debra Dingman will offer a morning class on “Promoting Your Business” in Dixon from 7 to 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Dixon Chamber of Commerce office, 220 N. Jefferson St.

“Editors are usually happy to print well-written, newsworthy, press releases for their readers,” said Dingman, who worked as an editor, reporter and columnist for local newspapers for 10 years and as a columnist for nationally distributed Family Magazine.

Participants are encouraged to bring their business information and enjoy light refreshments while they learn how they can grow their business or organization through public relations. They’ll learn how to identify news within their businesses or organizations, how to write an effective news release and how to “blog their best in 30 seconds or less.”

Dingman earned an associate’s degree in journalism from Solano Community College and a bachelor’s degree in communications from Sacramento State. She started her career at The Daily Republic in Fairfield and continues to freelance for several publications in the region.

She is a member of the Downtown Dixon Business Association, the Chamber of Commerce and the Dixon Networking Associates.

The workshop fee is $25. To register, email her at [email protected].
