The Mustard Seed restaurant is in escrow

The Mustard Seed restaurant may soon change hands, but the upscale eatery will remain intact.

Robyn Bergman, who has owned the restaurant for more than 30 years with her husband Paul, confirms that the couple plan to retire this spring if everything goes as planned. Bergman, 60, said her restaurant is one of the oldest in Davis.

“It’s been really great. Paul and I have really loved being here,” she said. The restaurant’s address is 222 D St., Suite 11.

Young Jai and Young Rin Kwon of Riverside are the buyers listed in the bulk sale, which includes all of the furniture, menus, recipes and a transfer of the liquor license. Bergman said the Kwons recently purchased a house in Woodland, and they have a daughter who attends UC Davis.

If the sale goes through, the new owners would keep the same staff and menu, and plan to reopen for lunch. The restaurant recently shortened its hours to dinner only.

Bergman’s voice broke when she spoke on the phone about the sale. Many of her staff members have worked for them for 15 or more years, she said. Escrow is scheduled to close sometime around Valentine’s Day.

International Bistro closed earlier this month. The Nepalese and Vietnamese restaurant was open for less than three months at 213 E St., Suite A, between DeVere’s and Zindagi.

A “coming soon” sign is up in that space for Huong Lan Sandwiches, a Vietnamese sandwich shop.

It has the same owners as the Huong Lan Sandwiches at 6930 65^th St. in Sacramento, which offers more than 15 sandwiches, many for $3. Vietnamese sandwiches, or Bánh Mì, often feature steamed, barbecued or pulled pork or chicken. Fish, tofu, headcheese and paté are other options. The rolls are also stuffed with vegetables like carrots, cucumber and cilantro.

Its website http://huonglansandwichesdavis.com, posts future hours as 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. The space is vacant and signs point job seekers to the website.

U.S. Rep. John Garamendi, D-Walnut Grove, is opening a Davis office for his newly redrawn district, which includes all or portions of Yolo, Solano, Sacramento, Lake, Colusa, Glenn, Sutter and Yuba counties. He’s renting approximately 2,500 square feet at 412 G St., an office last occupied by ReMax, which moved to 408 Second St.

The lease for the spot, owned by the Yackzan Group, was handled by Davis Commercial Properties.

Aella Boutique, the lingerie and accessories store at 227 E St., Suite 3, across the alley from Peet’s Coffee & Tea, closed in September. Its website said its business plan is changing to offer “Shop Girl Parties.”

Peak Performance Health Club changed hands in October. Now it’s changing names ­– to Get Fit Davis.

Nick Walejeski, the club’s third owner, is also a personal trainer, boot camp instructor and triathlon coach. The health club is at 2795 Second St. Its website is http://www.getfitdavis.com.

As you may have in a recent Enterprise story and Bob Dunning’s columns read about its imminent demise, The Wash Mill, the self-serve laundry at 1740 E. Eighth St., closed last week.

Goodwill has a 10-year-lease for that and adjacent spots in Davis Commons. It’s also taking over the former All Things Right & Relevant spaces. R&R has a new store at 2801 Spafford St.

Zia’s Delicatessen opened a second, larger store in Midtown Sacramento on Dec. 18. It’s on the ground floor of the State Education Building at 14^th and O streets. The popular Davis deli remains at 616 Third St.

Kevin and Anne Marie Crilly cook their own meat and slice it to order. The new store also sells Zia’s salads, soups and to-go deli items by weight.

Two of the Crilly children, Angela and Jonathan, work at the new location, which is open Mondays through Saturdays.

Antiques Plus, 222 D St., Suite 1, is making way for a new, undisclosed tenant for its old Victorian. The antique store may move to another location after the end of January.
