Curves of Davis, part of the world’s largest franchisor of fitness clubs, announced that it will take part in Relay For Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, Aug. 4-5 in Davis.
This is the sixth year that Curves of Davis has fielded a team for the local event.
Last year, Curves placed more than 100 luminaria around the track in honor and memory of loved ones who have battled cancer. The club also was the top fundraiser for the American Cancer Society in the Davis Relay for Life in 2011. This year, Curves of Davis has set a goal to beat the $2,255 donated last year.
“Relay is such an important event for us,” said Curves of Davis owner Ann Arneson. “Nearly everyone can relate to being touched by cancer in some way, and this is a great opportunity for us to come together as a community and do something about it.
“It’s exciting to know that we’re not just participating with the members in our own community, but with other Curves owners and their members across the country as well. We will have a booth to educate participants about breast cancer and how a healthy lifestyle, including exercising and eating nutritiously, can significantly lower their risk for cancer.”
Davis’ Relay for Life event will take place at Emerson Junior High School from 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, to 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 5.
Curves International is a national corporate team program participant for both Relay for Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, making Curves the first corporation to become a national corporate team program member of two key American Cancer Society events.
