Diners at IHOP restaurants, including the one at 1745 Cowell Blvd. in South Davis, can enjoy a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, and raise money for the charity at the same time.

March 4, Shrove Tuesday, is National Pancake Day. Over the past eight years, IHOP customers across the nation have donated more than $13 million for their “free” pancakes, supporting the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Shriners Hospitals for children and other charities.

IHOP is expanding the program into Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico for the first time and hopes to raise more than $3 million this year.

Participating IHOP restaurants also are selling “Miracle Balloons” for $1 and $5 each to benefit the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. All icon proceeds will help provide life-saving care, equipment and programs at 145 hospitals.
