IKEA hosts fifth anniversary party

February 17, 2011 |

In honor of its five-year anniversary, IKEA in West Sacramento will host a party with food and activities Friday through Sunday, March 4-6.

“Stop by the store for deals on items throughout the store as we look to celebrate with the community that welcomed us so warmly five years ago,” a news release said.

The store, at 700 IKEA Court, will offer entertainment for the kids such as free face painting each day from noon to 4 p.m. Free anniversary cupcakes will be served from noon to 6 p.m., following free breakfast each day from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the IKEA Restaurant.

A workshop titled “A New Season, A New Bedroom,” will be presented by Lisa Quinn, Emmy award-winning TV host and author of “Life is Too Short to Fold Fitted Sheets,” at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5.

The same day, the public is invited to watch the IKEA Design Challenge featuring interior design students from the Art Institute of Sacramento and the International Academy of Design and Technology at 12:30 p.m. Judging on the final pieces will be at 2 p.m.

“Watch the challenge and see how these students take an ordinary piece of IKEA furniture and transform it into something extraordinary,” the news release said.

On Sunday, March 6, store visitors are invited to bring their camera and take a picture with Dinger, the Rivercats mascot, from noon to 2 p.m.

Additionally, there will be a drawing for five $1,000 IKEA gift cards.
