Marrone Bio Innovations, a Davis-based biotech firm, has promoted two senior executives.

Hector Absi was named to the newly created position of chief operating officer for the company. Previously the senior vice president of commercial operations, Absi joined MBI in September 2012. In his new position, he will be responsible for the company’s global sales and marketing, business development, supply chain and manufacturing teams and will continue to oversee the operation of its Michigan manufacturing facility.

Alison Stewart was promoted to senior vice president of research and development and chief technical officer. Her responsibilities in this newly added position include the management of all the company’s R&D personnel and operations. She also will continue to lead the technology in-licensing and intellectual property activities of MBI.

Stewart joined MBI as its first chief science officer in April 2013 from Lincoln University in New Zealand. There, she was the distinguished professor of plant pathology in the Bio-Protection Research Centre. Stewart retains the title of emeritus professor with the university.

Marrone Bio Innovations, founded by Pam Marrone, is a leading global provider of bio-based pest management and plant health products.
