With more employees reaching retirement age, both the public and private sectors are struggling to fill leadership openings.
UC Davis Extension’s Management and Leadership Certificate Program, launching this fall, is helping address this challenge by providing rising leaders with a strong managerial foundation.
The six- to seven-course series increases leadership capacity by exploring the most recent practices, trends and issues associated with leading multifaceted organizations.
“Retirements have been a looming threat as organizations lose knowledge and talent,” said program director Sharon Huntsman. “This program prepares the next generation by helping to ensure smooth transitions and continual growth and success for an increasingly complex business environment, and career advancement for promising supervisors and managers.”
Topics include organizational development, ethics and gathering and using data strategically. Courses are offered in a variety of formats — classroom and online — providing the flexibility professionals need. The program begins Sept. 25.
The program aligns with state of California leadership competencies, and leaders in the public and private sectors, as well as those working for nonprofits, will benefit and improve their career prospects, a news release said.
