Strands Salon Spa of Davis and Sacramento has scheduled a cut-a-thon Sunday, April 29, benefiting The Clean Water Fund-California, which focuses on helping local communities clean up contaminated drinking water sources.
Stylists will be cutting hair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The downtown Davis salon is at 135 F St.
“One-hundred percent of what we earn at the cut-a-thon will go to the Northern California office of The Clean Water Fund,” said Jacquelyn Crabtree, owner/stylist at Strands, in a news release. The organization works with local groups to reduce trash in waterways, promote reusable bags in stores, eliminate foam containers, protect drinking water affected by the oil industry’s increased use of fracking in underground drilling, and clean up mercury, PCBs and dioxin levels in the San Francisco Bay.
“This is the fourth year Aveda Earth Month activities have benefited The Clean Water Fund,” Crabtree said. “We’re proud to be among the Aveda salons involved in the 2012 campaign worldwide to raise money for the protection of clean water.”
Additionally, throughout the month of April, Strands will offer special services to clients who donate to the Earth Month effort, including free deep conditioning treatments, scalp massages, blow-dries and makeup touch-ups to anyone who makes a donation of $50 to $100, a facial to anyone donating $100 to $150, and a color or haircut to those who donate more than $150. Purchases of Aveda’s Light the Way candles at the salon will go to Global Greengrants Fund for clean water projects worldwide, Crabtree said.
Crabtree has owned the Davis Strands salon for four years and the sister Sacramento salon for seven years. Janette Carrera is Davis manager and stylist, while other stylists include John Hausler, Antainette Preciado, Laura Flores, Joy Carriker and Kasey Setters. Brianna Garcia and Suzie Sandoval are the front desk receptionists.
Strands Sacramento stylists do the hair and makeup for Channel 10 television’s 9 a.m. “Sacramento & Co.” show, and hair and makeup for individuals featured in “Sactown Magazine.” Strands stylists also do hair and makeup at San Francisco and Los Angeles Fashion Weeks, and Crabtree has been the stylist for former California First Lady Maria Shriver. All staff is trained to use natural resources in a sustainable, responsible manner.
Strands offers free college/university saver cards for 15 percent off each service, with every 10th service free to students, faculty and staff. For more information, call Stands Salon in Davis at (530) 759-0795.
