Save Mart Supermarkets, which operates a Davis store at 1900 Anderson Road, is the recipient of the 2013 Golden Bear Award from the California State Fair. The award acknowledges individuals and businesses that have furthered the fair’s mission of showcasing California.

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, this family-owned grocery business established in 1952 is innovative, community-oriented and dedicated to the mission of the State Fair and its focus on agriculture, a news release said.

The State Fair’s commercial wine competition is annually sponsored by Save Mart, and members of the company’s leadership team have produced and operated the Gold Medal Wine Garden, which has become a destination place for fairgoers during the 17-day event in Sacramento. Fair dates this year are July 12-28.

The centerpiece of the State Fair’s agricultural programs is the award-winning State Fair Farm, also presented by Save Mart. The grocer also has long been a part of the California Grape and Gourmet.

The Golden Bear award will be presented at the California State Fair Gala on Friday, June 28, at Cal Expo in Sacramento. The gala features an elegant evening of gourmet food, auctions, entertainment, awards and more than $33,000 in scholarship presentations to area youths.
